Amritsar, October 28: Bandi Chhor Divas was celebrated in Punjab on Sunday. On the occasion of Bandi Chhor Divas, traditional sports were organized in Amritsar. Nihang Singh showcased his equestrian skills at the sports fair. In a video shared by the news agency ANI, Nihang Singh can also be seen riding four horses at a time. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also greeted people on Bandi Chhor Day. Bandi Chhor Day is celebrated by Sikhs. This coincides with the festival of Diwali. It marks the release of Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh Guru of the Sikhs from prison by the Mughals in the 17th century. This day is celebrated as "Bandi Chhora" day all over Punjab. Guru Hargobind was jailed in 1609 by the Mughal emperor Jahangir in the Gwalior Fort. At the time of release, Guru Hargobind asked the Mughals to leave 52 kings with them.

On the occasion of Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas, every year lakhs of devotees visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar to take a holy dip in the lake. Pilgrims also seek blessings from the Almighty. The Golden Temple is decorated with lights, and fireworks are also performed in the holy temple.
