Lucknow, October 19: The Uttar Pradesh Food Department on Friday conducted a large raid at an illegal sweets factory in Alhaganj area of Shahjahanpur district. The raid seized at least 40 quintals of substandard whole papdi with 60 tonnes of low quality palm oil, all purpose flour and groundnut. The officers decided to bury the seized products under the ground after digging the soft area using JCB. Diwali 2019 brings together Soan Papdi Memes! However, Food Department officials were ostracized by local mafias who used their men to dig into the area late at night to re-excavate and steal all the seized products. Authorities have expressed concern by saying that many illicit food products are sold easily during Diwali – the largest Hindu festival in which the consumption of sweet treats peaks.

Notably, the raid was conducted on Friday by a team led by Chief Food Officer Rajesh Kumar. The factory that was raided is next to the Yash Sohan Papdi Bhandar located at Bagia Lane in Aliganj.

On the occasion of Diwali, Food Department officials across the country are instructed to take action on a war footing to curb the sale and consumption of substandard and dangerous foods.

As sweets are widely sold and distributed on the festival, many dessert factories and shop owners use substandard raw materials to maximize their profits. In many cases, victims were diagnosed with serious illnesses including diarrhea and dehydration.
