Laxman picks the best Test captain between Kohli and Ponting

Indian captain Virat Kohli has created history as he equaled the record of the great Ricky Ponting for the highest Test century as captain when he went for the 26th Test century against South Africa at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune .

Laxman selected Kohli as the best Test captain

The run-machine is just a ton away from equaling Ponting's record of the most centuries as captain in all formats of the game. Therefore, the question arises as to who is the best captain of the two in the longest format of the game.

Former India Test batsman Very Very Special Laxman was asked the same question and he was quick to answer the question.

During the lunch break on the second day of the second Test match between India and South Africa, the commentator from the cricketer said, "I will be a bit biased here, I will go with Kohli."

However, there is a valid point, behind Laxman's selection. He further added to explain his point as he argued that Ricky Ponting had a better team when he started as Test captain, while Kohli had to start from scratch.

"Ponting was handed a great team of Steve Waugh. They had match winners from 1 to 11 in that side. The batting department was Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Martin, Symonds, Gilchrist.

The bowling unit consisted of McGrath, Gillespie, Warne, Lee. But this was not the case with Kohli. When Kohli took over the captaincy from Dhoni, he had a young side, ”said Laxman.

“The bowling unit, Shami, Bhubaneswar, Ishant were still ready. Bumrah was not there. So Kohli had to build his team, ”he said.
